About the Artist

Alyssa Urbaniak is a multimedia artist interested in the figure, natural environments, and the distortion of subjects and spaces. Her primary medium is paint, using gouache, watercolor, acrylic, and oil, either independently or layered together. Photographic references are combined with sketches to create the bones of a piece, allowing paint to sit on top like skin. Intentional marks are used for details, meant to emphasize contrast from a distance and add texture upon a closer look. While there is no clear link between each work, they are all expressions of the artist's multifaceted relationship with her mental and physical health.
