All that is left is to finish the figure and add details like a curtain, dog toy, and sock(s). I’ll probably revisit the bird as well- this is my first time painting my bird (Senegal parrot) and it has been fun! He lives with my parents for now so having him in my current apartment, even just in painted form, was nice. One of my first college courses (at Delaware College of Art and Design) was a 2D Design class; and an exercise from it has evolved into backgrounds for several of my current drawings. This class broke down the elements and principles of design to the most basic level, which was incredibly helpful as an artist. these walls have eyes Part of the reason this class and its curriculum have been so influential to...

Cheers to This

What is my relationship to this space and the other people in it? This is a question considered often, consciously or unconsciously. The answer can affect, inform, change the tone of the event; no matter how different it is to each individual. There’s a certain dreamlike quality to this painting that evokes the same question, asking the viewer to stop, take a moment, and think about how we got here. Notice the familiarity of the lighting and shape of the cabinets, the recognizable drinking...

Sketchbook Tour

sketchbook cover I have almost filled up my sketchbook so I thought I would share some of my favorite pages! first page! It also served as a good reminder as to why I enjoy painting. I made this while still in school and busy making art for assignments. My excitement over finishing the strainers in class pushed me to start painting without any plan or preparation. References were then collected and collaged together, focusing on photographs of women’s bodies with scars from life saving surgeries. The intent became to represent these bodies in a way that reflected the strength of their character, as scars do. Despite scars being a physical sign of healing, they are seen as shameful or at the very least,...

Goliath (On the Run)

An adaptation of Caravaggio’s David and Goliath (1599). The original depicts David kneeling on the back of Goliath as he cuts the giant’s head from its corpse. The face of this “David” is obscured, her hair blocking her face and tangling with the locks of the beheaded giant.
